Melissa Goude graduated with a Bachelor of Science (summa cum laude) from the University of Florida in 2011, majoring in materials engineering with a specialization in biomaterials. In her freshmen year, Melissa studied the tissue response to inflammatory stimulus using hyperspectral imaging with Dr. Brian Sorg (Department of Biomedical Engineering). She then participated in a summer REU at Cornell University to investigate the effects of extracellular matrix biomechanical properties on the differentiation of heart progenitor cells under the guidance of Dr. Jonathan Butcher (Department of Biomedical Engineering). For her senior thesis, Melissa worked with Dr. Anthony Brennan (Department of Materials Science and Engineering) on the characterization of collagen-bioactive glass composites for treating osteomyelitis. Melissa is currently pursuing a PhD in biomedical engineering. She is co-advised by Dr. Johnna Temenoff and Dr. Todd McDevitt.
